Use lookup fields in Filter Widget

The dashboard filter widget seems to support structured data: Single Select, Multi Select, Assignment, Yes/No, Status, Linked Record.
Like the filter in the report toolbar allow us to use "Lookup" fields of these other field types in the filter widget.
For a use case, an account rep is assigned to the account and tasks are generated against the account. We want to be able to filter the account rep on the tasks grid, so we know who the primary contact is.

Lookups as Filters in the Filter Widget

Working with clients, I came across several use cases where a lookup as a filter in the filter widget would be very useful.
We needed to create a linked record as a workaround, copying from the lookup (which isn't a good practice for a clean DB architecture)

I just wanted to comment to show my support!
For my use case, I have multiple tables that all relate to each other in a hierarchy that looks something like this:
Enterprise > Franchisee > Location
For the purpose of filters, I want managers of a location to have access to data from their location. Franchisees can see the data for all of their locations, and the Enterprise can view data for all franchisees and locations.
There are a few projects I am working on with this structure, where right now I have to create automations for linked records based on lookups (as Vasken mentions above) and it seems like a waste of resources/compute/data to do so.

Hiya Vasken Bakalian, thanks for this post! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide specific examples of the use cases where a lookup as a filter would be beneficial?
- How frequently do you encounter the need for this feature in your workflow?
- What impact would having this feature have on your current processes or efficiency?

- Exactly the same as the fields it is looking up
- Just the assignees name and image, like the current assignment field it is pointing at.
- Hundreds of times a day, as with large data sets this reduces our number of fields and automations.

Thank you for posting, Ray Thacher! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details on how you envision the 'Lookup' fields working within the filter widget?
- What specific information would you like to see in the 'Lookup' fields for the account rep in the tasks grid?
- How frequently would you or your team use this 'Lookup' feature in the filter widget?
