The lack of templates is my biggest hurdle with SmartSuite

I would like an easy way to create things and turn them into templates. I'd like to tailor to my clients by adding template parts to fit their needs. This is my #1 hurdle with SmartSuite and keeps me from recommending to clients.
Without a template center that can house what I build, I am recreating the wheel.
From what I remember, SmartSuite has a more forward thinking view of how templates will be used, but I need the ability to save my work so that it can be saved to be used as templates.
Please add a template center. My only reference is what ClickUp does. A simple use-case is a task template that has subtasks and checklists. This is a must for tasks that are repeatable, like a nurse going through rounds, etc. Each subtask is a step within the process. There might be specific checklists based on the patient that are inserted based on circumstances. The application of templates are limitless.
Status Templates
Tasks
Checklists
Apps
Solutions
Anything I can get creative with to be used repeatedly needs to be in template form.
And it needs to be easy. Click to find template, click to insert.
Thanks.

Thanks for merging my post, Nate. Looks like there are several of us who feel similarly about workspace-wide templates. Would love to see this become a reality.

Templates: Solution, App, Record, Checklists AND Automations

I've recently realised that for me to use SmartSuite as my go-to WfMS, I would need to use templates, across all areas of my workspace. This is the
only
reason why I have gone back to ClickUp for task management, as I can automate a List creation, knowing that the bare bones of the project/task is there. In my opinion, this would change the nature of SmartSuite to truly becoming a "one-stop shop" for all solopreneur business needs.

Great to hear your perspective, Lowenna Luke! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide examples of the types of templates you would like to see implemented in SmartSuite?
- What specific features in ClickUp's automation of List creation do you find most useful and would like to see in SmartSuite?
- How do you envision these templates improving your workflow as a solopreneur?

Hi Jon, thanks for such a quick reply.
So to answer your questions:
1. Types of templates:
Solution templates would be primarily used for gathering information for a client's website design: e.g. page content, imagery, product info, case studies, blog content. I'd create a full template for everything, then delete the bits I don't need. It would be ideal to be able to template any automations within the solution too but if automation templates became a separate thing, then workarounds would be possible.
App templates – not sure yet but I’ll probably think of something!
Record templates are probably the most important, especially with the ability to include sub-tasks and/or checklists. The idea is to use a record for a client’s project, then use sub-tasks to break down into project tasks. These act more as an ‘aide-memoire’, so for a web-design project, they’d include things like global settings, layouts, testing, code snippets, navigation, remember to clear the cache…
Multiple checklist templates would be great as often I can use branding in email marketing, e-docs, forms as well as design-based projects.
Automations… this is
the
one I think we’ve all been waiting for! No need to explain this, I don’t think! 🫣2. Specific ClickUp features: just the seeming ability to template everything, and recall them without them being limited to the space, folder or list.
3. Time is the most precious thing a small business owner has and the ability to template and automate even the little things means that nothing gets overlooked. Without going into specifics, I’m of an age where brain fog really does impact my day-to-day work and personally, I need my workday templated and organised to within a second, else my neuro-spicy brain goes off on a tangent.
As SmartSuite is the complete package, it lends itself perfectly for business teams of 1-5, where users have multiple business roles. Templates set up correctly, would just save time and sanity.

I am trying to automate all my business and project processes. One of the most important things to automate repeatitive processes is the ability to create tempates for these processes, so it will be easy to reuse them. So, let's say, in the Project Management solution we have a projects app and tasks app. I have to be able to create a project by setting some trigger in the sales solution automatically, and then, based on the requirements field automatically assign standard tasks from templates. I know that there is an ability to create a task by automation. But my task templates keep all subtasks, description, documents with procedure explanations, etc. It will be very complex task to create this kind of task by automation, and it will require to build a new automation for each new process task. Ability to save a task template and apply it to a new task by setting a selective trigger would help a lot. For reference, this kind of functionality is done great in ClickUp.

This would be great.

We also need this! Notion and Airtable have similar features that I would love to see in SmartSuite, and that would allow us to ditch ClickUp. Example: https://support.airtable.com/docs/using-record-templates-in-airtable

Yes, we need exactly the same functionality. Having a defined list of tasks and subtasks that is saved in a template to be reused. E.g. a bunch of project initate tasks that will always be the same for every new project. ClickUp ha a great template feature on different levels in their hirarchy.
Ara Bozadjian
Fully agree, loved this feature in ClickUp, even down to Custom Fields being shared across Solutions/Apps/Templates.
