In order for SmartDocs to be useful to us we really need it to 1) be standalone and not a field type, which I know is already on the roadmap (yay!) but 2) that editing can happen by concurrent users while all are viewing the doc.

Nate Montgomery @ SmartSuite this has been working for a fair few months now right? Has something changed that this has been marked as COMPLETE now? 👀

side note: COMMAND-S is great for saving BUT also inadvertently initiates 'strikethrough' formatting on the text.

Agree. Love SmartSuite but have to use alternative solution for docs. We've already had issues where SmartDocs have been overwritten because 2 users had same doc open. 
Scenario case: 
2 users open same SmartDoc a few minutes apart
user 1 makes minor updates
user 2 spends 1hr on updates
user 2 saves SmartDoc
user 1 saves Smart Doc
loses all user 2 updates.
couldn't see a way for either user to know the other was working on it too.
