Save Changes Automatically with Undo Option

When editing a Record (or just about anything), you need to click Save for your changes to apply.
This feels like a blast from the past and makes project setup quite slow.
Would go well with: https://smartsuite.canny.io/feature-requests/p/cmdctrl-z

I hadn't realized how reliant I've become on Autosave until I lost major edits due to switching tabs, refreshing, and time out. I've concluded that I can't use Smart Docs for intensive documentation. To me, it can only function as a lightweight note. It has its useful place, but in no way is it a replacement for docs that matter. My workaround is to use Google Docs for all serious work and copy-paste it into SmartSuite with a link to the original. It is a hassle and defies the integrated use of a single app, but it's way better than losing and reconstructing valuable data that took hours to create. I'm unsure if Autosave documentation will ever be addressed, but this is a basic necessity common to all users. I loved it when MS and Google defaulted to autosave for the same reason --- I never had to keep thinking whether I hit "save" -- or that awful feeling of lost data because I hadn't. I am not going back to that at this point. Also, consider how difficult it is to export critical documents within SS. Sticking with Google or MS seems sound.

Just ran into two problems because records don't save automatically:
1) An employee sent an email using a template from within SmartSuite (great functionality by the way), but it arrived blank. Turned out she hadn't saved the record before sending the email, there was no prompt warning her to do so, no preview of the email before sending, just a blank email and confusion.
2) I was in the middle of updating a record, walked away, came back the next day, got the timeout/reload and lost my edits.

I press the keys Control and S to save my input in SmartSuite as I did in 1999 to save my input in Microsoft Word. It's high time we stopped asking programs to store new data.

Yes, this! I accidentally closed a tab the other day when I was clicking back to it and lost all of my work. Came here to request this and I'm happy it has been requested already!

does this apply to SmartDoc too? shocked that a doc didn't save and all work was lost.

Running an automation can't be done within a record for this very reason - you have to save the changes and exit out of a record for the changes to apply and a subsequent automation to trigger. Seems crazy to have to be in grid view to run an automation effectively.

I almost wanted to shift from airtable, but without undo it’ll be a nightmare if I accidentally mass update with the wrong info.
Please get this done soon and I’m happy to migrate over. It’s literally the only thing stopping me

Reeve: agreed, insane that it isnt on there. We started to migrate and had to stop

Agreed, autosave and Undo. That said, I do often have trouble where I accidentally edit a record in Airtable and don't always catch it in order to Undo. So the save function seems better for data integrity, just not ease of use. A happy median would be ideal for me.

Would love for autosave to happen as well!
