Remove Field from Display when inside a record

Aaron We are working on a UI now that will allow you to select the fields to be displayed in a record. This will be accessed from the Page Settings menu that is available on in the App Menu. Currently we allow you to select the page display style and we are adding another tab in this panel for Fields. This will include a listing of all fields in the App and allow you to select / unselect the fields to be displayed in the record. This will allow you to remove fields that are no longer needed, but you don't want to lose the data or to remove fields that are only used for things like formulas.
I have added a select/unselect ,image below to help you understand the concept. Please feel free to provide input on this.
I will also think about adding the remove option in the field menu like you are suggesting above.
Jon Darbyshire: Love it! Btw, page display style is huge. I really disliked the orginal one (felt it was too big and bulky, busyand , required scrolling to input notes), but I was so glad when I found the 70/30 - it felt so much cleaner. What would really make this killer is to allow the user to customize - not field location, but field input and display box sizes. If that's not realistic, then offering a lot of different page display style options.
One of the things I don't love about all of the productivity software out there is how big and bulky everything is on the screen. I know that helps for phone access, but on a desktop I don't think people really want to see a lot of boxes and busyness. In general I feel this type of big/bulky style lends to a feeling of clutter, chaos, and getting lost in the page. Having compact options (height and width), reducing unneeding display items when possible, grouping, and choosing field location can free it up so the user doesn't feel like they're doing data entry, but instead creating the feeling that they can easily access the note box they want to type in (along with all their data) with very little (or no) scrolling required. If I ruled the world, I'd try to find a way to eliminate scrolling. (I'm always focused on efficiency, speed, and reducing overwhelm/feeling of complexity with a clean, open feel.)
The other night I was tossing around a few ideas on minimization to create more openness. I have more than these but my time is very limited (I'm a single dad with 6 kids and a startup) and it takes way too long to explain them in writing. I included a pic as reference on a couple thoughts (in contrast to the 50/50 which was all I knew about at the time), but it may not make much sense without explanation (happy to schedule a short mtg if this is something you ever want to pursue, otherwise I'll leave it at this).
The reason I'm sharing all these ideas is that I LOVE what SmartSuite is trying to accomplish. (Your templates are AWESOME, btw!) I'm rooting for you and would love to see SmartSuite become the best productivity software in the world - but more importantly, one that I really want to use. Please don't view my suggestions as criticisms but rather as (hopefully) helpful feedback or ideas from an ally who wants you to succeed. Regardless of whether you implement any of my suggestions, if nothing else, at least it gives you options and maybe spurs some thought.
Aaron: Got it. Thanks for the details feedback. I have some ideas about a three column layout and also custom layout that would be more like a document designer. I am hoping to find time very soon to get super focused on this.
