Recurring Due Dates

I have a client that is a Bookkeeping business. I built their existing task management in ClickUp, which for task recurrences is based on the date, not the current status (unless it is set to recur when it reaches a specific status in the recurrence settings), which makes more sense because pretty much all of their tasks recur (at least monthly, if not more frequently). However, because of hold ups beyond their control (their clients' tardiness providing documentation or answering questions in a timely manner) they are unable to complete a task on time, but the next month's task must be created. Regardless of the status, the task must recur on the timetable set out in the recurrence settings. For example, if I have a recurring 'Monthly Reconciliations' task with a start date of the 1st of each month and the due date as the last day of every month. Regardless of the current status (ex. In Progress), the new task needs to be recreated for the next month's 'monthly reconciliations' once the existing task's due date is reached. In this example, on the last day of the month, the existing task (with recurring settings), even though it remains In Progress status, a new task is created. The prior (In Progress) task, remains In Progress state and will show as overdue. The newly created task (from the recurrence) is automatically set with all the same settings as the previous task, with the exception of moving the dates ahead by one month (still starting on the 1st and ending on the last day). This is extremely important because there are regulatory compliances (ex. payroll taxes, worker safety insurance, sales tax, etc.) due for specific periods and if filings are late, serious penalties and interest can be levied by the government, so ensuring the tasks are showing up in the system on schedule is crucial.

Hey Jeffrey Parsons, thanks for your feedback! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details on how you would like the start date and time to be determined for the new iteration of the task?
- Are there any specific rules or patterns you follow when manually updating the start date and time for new tasks?
- How frequently do you encounter tasks with recurring due dates in your workflow?

Jon Darbyshire We have a meeting table where we use Smartsuite to track recurring meetings within the company. These meetings always start and end at the same time. Some are weekly, some monthly, etc..... Right now the start date/time is not carrying over and has to be entered manually. Another example, every week at 9 am, our front desk staff has a recurring task to pick up the waiting room between 9 and 9:15. We have MANY recurring tasks in our workflow, as there are things that have to be done on an on-going basis. The start date/time is not always essential to these tasks, but often is.
