Yes! Since primary fields are sometimes unreadable ID's not useful to the user, picking another column means scrolling to the right would show you what row you're on. Otherwise, no reference to where you are.

I believe this is already a feature. If you mouse over the lines between columns toward the far left, there is a handle you can grab and drag to where you want the freeze.
