"Me Mode"
Steven Z
First off, thank you for considering my request. I was hoping to see if people would be interested in adding a "Me Mode". This is a feature that ClickUp offers, which is very useful; however, implementing the same functionality in Smartsuite would be somewhat cumbersome at this time.
The way it works is that there is an option on the toolbar of a view to turn on or off me mode (or in the top navigation bar/header if you want it to apply SmartSuite-wide). By turning it on, you would only see records that are assigned to you using the "Assigned To" field. If you turned it off, you would then be able to see the records assigned to everyone else, in addition to your own. Currently, if I wanted to achieve this, I would have to create a new view with each view having a filter that targets the assigned-to field. One of those would have to be made for every person who could be selected, and those people would have to dig through the views a bit to find their name or add it to their favorites. That, however, is still a lot more cumbersome than a me mode would be because we wouldn't have to make new views every time a new person is added to the assigned to field and delete old ones. Alternatively, we can ask our staff to edit the filter every time they visit the main table (several times a day), or instruct them to scroll past hundreds of projects to reach their part of the grouping (if their name is far down the list on the Assigned To field).
The benefit of Me Mode would be that users can activate it, and when they view the records, it would hide those not relevant to them. No need to change the view, create new views, or scroll past numerous records every time. You can even make Me Mode apply regardless of where they go in SmartSuite, provided it is activated.
For example, I have a table that lists our projects. The table is grouped by Project Manager (Assigned To field), and we have multiple project managers. Each project manager has 50+ projects underway at any given time. The project manager who is at the bottom of the list has to scroll through hundreds of projects to see their own.
Another example is the meeting and appointment calendar we have. We can have 10+ meetings/appointments on the same day, but not all of them are relevant to everyone. If Me Mode is activated, it would slim down the calendar to only show appointments pertinent to the user. That would be huge for our team's ability to cut out all the noise and focus on what is important to them.
To take it a step further, it would be extremely powerful if the solution creator could make Me Mode activated by default at the view level for all users. So, if I, as the solution creator, want to create a view called "My Projects", it would default to the projects associated with the person who clicked on that view specifically.
Sorry for the long message, I think this would be a potent functionality that would help productivity and make SmartSuite even more powerful than it already is. Thanks for your consideration on this!
