Date and Time fields and default values
William Porter
The behaviors of Date fields and Time fields seem a bit inconsistent to me.
★ When configuring a date field, I can indicate that I want to display a time; I can select a display format that shows the time; and I can ask it to enter a default value of Today (or other values). But in real life, it doesn't autoenter the time. I create a new record (say) in a grid, and it shows only today's DATE. I have to click on the field and manually enter a time. That's in grid view. If I ask it to display DATE + TIME, and to autoenter Today, I think it should "July 7, 2023 at 11:37 AM" (or whatever).
★ Another inconsistency: In a new record form (which of course isn't a real record until I save it), the DATE value that is going to be autoentered into this field if the record is saved will display in the form, but there's no time. This isn't a separate problem: I suspect it's really just a consequence of the first problem.
To sum up: Time ought to be autoentered with the date, if I've (a) asked for an autoentered value and (b) indicated that I want time displayed as well.
As for Time fields:
★ With a date field it's possible to set Today (or a couple other dynamic options) as the default value for the field. It's possible to set a default for a time field, too, but the options there do NOT include anything dynamic: Only hard-coded time values like 11:30 AM. There ought to be a Now option for default in a time field, I would think.

Absolutely would love to have the time option by default, instead of having to click on it whenever I want to add a time.

Absolutely second this. We need an ability to grab a full date/time "stamp" for multiple use cases.
