Clicking Into Sublist field in GridView
in progress

Any updates on this? Almost a year ago this was "coming in our next release"

This is fantastic news. Thank you for adding it! Just to clarify, do you mean implementing a kind of nested grid view of items and sub-items, a bit like Monday does? (See attached screenshot).

I'd prefer to be able to "choose action" so we can dictate whether the field is a modal pop-up or allow for in-line editing. I have some use cases where in-line editing makes far more sense than a modal, and others are vice versa.

Check in on this, not just sub-items popping out, but the ability to add an Assigned To column to a Sub-list. I thought I had heard this was coming but can't find it.

We will be adding this in our next release.

Jon Darbyshire: any updates on this? October 2022, almost a year ago now, this was marked adding in our next release.

Jon Darbyshire: I'd love an update on this too. Showing a count of sub-tasks in grid view is nice, but an additional "level" showing title and other fields would be very helpful.

Jon Darbyshire Hello Jon. Good afternoon. You guys are doing great job on getting the requested features done at earliest possible and we understand that there is a huge list you guys need to address as the user base is growing day by day (like me i recently got to know about Smart suites, fell in love with everything about it, started Smart suit subscription and stopped my subscriptions with the other tools i was exploring as Smart suites looked very promising (user experience, capabilities, customer support what not :)). So thank you for bring such an awesome tool & experience to us. [sorry, this my first post, so wanted to share my appreciation before i say anything else]
Now coming to the request .. nested tasks (most up to 3 levels - Task, sub task, sub sub task), nested check lists are becoming very basic to any project management tools these days, not having them is making the user feel the pain every time user creates a task in the tool for Project management. So when you say "In Progress", may we know the ETA on when users can get nested tasks, nested check lists please. Appreciate your timely response. Thank you.

Mhy Zen and fellow sub-form fans, I wanted to point out that you can already take advantage of this new sub-items approach by configuring a second table (that holds the sub tasks) to be "hidden." Let me walk you through it.
Lets take the typical use case where you have "Tasks" and "Sub-Tasks" tables. Add a linked record from task to (many) Sub-Tasks. The initial setup looks like the first image below.
Then, you can hide the Sub-Tasks table so that it's only directly accessible from the Task (you can still see hidden tables if you click on the table "hamburger menu" icon).
To mimic the table-style display of sub-item fields, you can set the Linked Record to Sub-Task's "Display Format" to Table Display. You end up with an experience that is very similar to the existing sub-item field, but with the full power of a SmartSuite table instead of the subset of functions offered by the current Sub-Item field type.
You can use formulas to extract or roll up information from linked Sub-Tasks, target them with automations, etc.
Existing Sub-Items fields will be migrated to this structure in Q4. Additionally, we have a List View type on our roadmap that will support the "level" view that many people are requesting.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions or need help configuring a particular workflow.

Peter Novosel Hello .. Good afternoon. Thank you so much for the details. I will try this approach and let you know if any further questions or need any further help, Novosel. Thanq :)

Hi Peter Novosel Good evening. I have tried the steps you have mentioned above (in fact i am already doing that for my linked ToDos etc and able to view the details on the record expanded view), but one thing i am not interested to do is Group by. I don't want or can't do group by as I have no field to be able to group by as the main task description or other details are not same always. And without doing group by i am not able to view the sub tasks similar to Monday.com or Zoho table or Notion.
I went through few other posts and i see you guy have this one planned - https://smartsuite.canny.io/feature-requests/p/list-view. I am not sure if just providing List view is planned, but also sub tasks like other tools is also planned per requests from few user comments on this mentioned feature request. Would appreciate your timely response. [P.S. Again i am not forcing anything because i am developer too, i totally understand how much effort it takes to make things reality, i do know you guys are working very hard to make the requests possible & I do appreciate that. I am just interested to know where you guys are with consideration so i can plan things better on my side when building solution that has sub tasks feature dependency :)]. Thank you.
