Button Presses in Activity History

I currently have no way to know who pushed a button. Some of our button fields open a new tab that kicks off an API call. We have no way to identify who pushed the button. Having an entry in the activity history of a button push and who pushed it would solve this for us.
Currently there is no work around for this.
