Better support for N:1 relationships (linked records) between an App and itself

Today we have the ability to create linked records between an App and itself.
But the manifestation of this is not as you would expect. Think of scenarios like Account hierarchies, Contact management hierarchies, and task dependencies.
You would want Record A to be able to be the "parent of" Records B and C, not also display Records B and C as the parent of A.

Linked Records pointing to the same table allow you to turn off the 'create a backlink'

I would also love to have this feature. To date, I was somehow able to circumvent this by using separate Apps/Tables. However, I am starting to hit road blocks because I cannot distinguish the two sides of a relationship in case the of linking records within the same App/Table. Using a tree structure as an example, when self-linking Apps/Tables, a record can be a parent in the relationship with zero or more child records and/or a child in the relationship with zero or one parent record. Thus, SmartSuite should display separate (counterpart) roles (e.g., parent, child) and allow users to select one (or more) records for each role.

I'm absolutely needing features to accommodate this. Specifically these following options should exist for a self-linking App Link field;
- Associated - This is the current behaviour, where a record is linked, and both the selected record and the linked records Link field populates with one-another.
- Unassociated - An option for where, a record can be linked in, but that linked record itself is not updated.
- Parent / Child - Similar to Associated, but two Linked Fields persist for a record, and when one field is linked in Record A, the other field is updated in Record B with Record A's record.
Thanks to filtered lookups, a filter can be enabled to simulate Parent / Child, but it's a workaround and doesn't compare to direct interactivity of this workflow within Linked Fields directly.

Parent-child relationships will be useful, I agree. I also like the current ability to link peers though, like in the case of spouses or siblings.

Exactly the issue we have had. Thanks for pointing it out!
