Add Comment Using Automation

We need the ability to insert comments into a record when running an automation. This could be used for everything from inserting instructions, links, files, reminders, etc.. This is a feature native to ClickUp, and it would be excellent to have this functionality.

Hey Axely Congress, thanks for your feedback! I have a few more questions for you:
- Could you provide some examples of the types of comments you would like to insert using automation?
- Are there specific triggers or conditions that should initiate the insertion of these comments?
- Would you like the ability to customize the comments inserted by the automation, or would they be pre-set?

Jon Darbyshire Hi John!
- We insert comments like "do this and do that" or "click here to notify xxx", etc. There really is no limit as when we establish workflows we use them also as a bot notifier, to have the CU bot notify someone to do something when a task arrives so they do not have to remember it. We also use it as a late task notifier. The bot sends a very alertful message stating the a task is late and what penalties may arise if it is later. We push this through AI and so each message is kind of unique. Our users thinks they come from our PM because of this, however they are AI generated.
- Same triggers that update a record for automation, just changed to insert comment so that the record owners are notified of the comment (@).
- They would be customized comments. This feature is also missing in Make.com for your application as well, so we cannot say, have GPT write the comment and send it for a specific person like in CU.
Thank you.

Layla at ProcessDriven how are you today :)
Here's what we have for the Add Comment automation, it still has some small things to be polished though.
As you can see, you'll be able to add comments to the records that come from the trigger OR you'll be able to add comments to the records that come from the FIND action.
Let us know what you think :)

Stoyan Daskaloff • Design Lead @ SmartSuite: hello again! 😊
This looks perfect, Stoyan!
I'm just curious though..."Select Records to Add Comment to" --> Records? Is multi-select going to be available for record selection? (That'd be exciting...!)

Layla at ProcessDriven: I'm glad you like it Layla :)
The idea so far is to be able to add a comment to a single or multiple records - it will all depend either on the Trigger or on the Find Records action. The Find Records action will return from 1 up to 100 records which gives you the flexibility to add a comment on a certain record or multiple records based on the find conditions.
Is adding comment to multiple records something that you would like to see ? Can you share some use cases with us ?

Stoyan Daskaloff • Design Lead @ SmartSuite: Yes, comments on multiple records would be awesome.
Use cases:
- Project is approved by client. Comment is posted in all Linked deliverables letting people know to get started. (Dependency-style use case.)
- Suzy is out on Nov 1st. She sets up an automation that posts "Reminder: I'm OOO today, but I'll check this tomorrow! Thanks, Suzy." for all tasks where she's the Project Manager.
- Customer cancels. Comments are posted in the Related records for Account Managers, Billing Team, and Offboarding Team to let them know.

Layla at ProcessDriven: awesome use cases, very helpful ! That's definitely what we're after.
Thank you and we'll keep you posted !

Stoyan Daskaloff • Design Lead @ SmartSuite: On what day would you like us to talk about it?

Threads Julian Dumitrascu: hey there. Unfortunately we've postponed the development of this action because of other priorities and features that were requested. We will keep you all posted when we start working on it.

This is currently in UI design. We are looking at adding a "comments" field type to all both create and update record actions. This way comments can be added at the same time as other field values.
Once we feel good about the UI, we will share as a reply for any comments.
