Global (Records) Map View

I believe I’ve seen a global calendar view in the works (yay!). After that, a Map View that is capable of viewing addresses/locations from all solutions in the Workspace would be SOOOO helpful!
Also, on the subject of mapping… if there’s a way to auto-validate locations that are imported or added via automation… 👌🏼👍🏼 😍

Multiple Overlaying Map Views

Map data shown from multiple app sources, similar to how you can show more than one "calendar" at once.

Jon Darbyshire - I was thinking about overlay maps as well. I could see overlaying construction site locations with locations of construction equipment. Also it would be sweet to have control of the map pen color by status... would be a great what to show locations of jobs being bid, jobs that could be bid, jobs under construction, and jobs built. This would go a long ways in planning on what jobs to bid.

Hey - I just realized I can control mapped pins by status using spotlight!! Cool Beans....

It would be great if SS could use the spotlight choiceto build and place a legend on the map of what the colors are for based on the status choices - and of course we need to be able to drag the legend to where we want it to be.

Thank you for posting, Tommy Sisbarro! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide examples of the types of map data you would like to overlay?
- Are there specific app sources you are interested in integrating for the map data?
- How would you like to interact with these multiple map views? Are there specific features you'd like to see?

Jon Darbyshire Hey! Here's my use case:
I run a wedding photography company, I have a robust database of venues (with their addresses), and I also have a database/app for my team of phootographers with their home addresses as a property.
It would be great to overlay those two maps, to find out which photographers live the closest to specific venues as we assign photographers for each job.
If I was to think of an added feature on top of this example to make things even more advanced - some sort of property to show estimated travel distance between two destinations would be pretty slick. It would allow me to sort photographers by closest distance to a specific address or location, an alternative view than just the visual map.

Hello Randall Nichols! I have a few more questions for you:
- Could you provide some examples of the types of locations you would like to view in the Map View?
- What specific features would you like to see in the auto-validation of locations?
- How would you like the Map View to interact with other solutions in the Workspace?

Jon Darbyshire, of course…
- In one use-case, I need to see the address of client (held in our Contact table)and the address of a community response team (held in our Accounts table)on the same map.
*These two tables live in the same Solution.
The SS community has shared some complex methods of making this happen with Google API, but they aren’t user-friendly to me. A native solution, like what I hear may be implemented with the Calendar, would likely solve this.
In another use-case: we are stepping into a new diaper banking role in our community. We need to see partner locations from our Diaper Bank solution and the families receiving diapers (CRM Solution) and Prospective Church Partners from a separate table in our CRM Solution.
One other use-case… we host a conference for foster parents. We collect the mailing addresses of attendees and as an extension of the conference, we offer to connect attendees to support groups in the community. So being able to see where a group is located (from our Program Management Solution), compared to the conference attendee’s home address in the Event Management solution would be of great benefit.
And a bonus… being able to look at a map and see where Diaper Partners, Groups, Churches, and other Community Responders are compared to where vulnerable families live, would help us tremendously when it comes to recruiting Diaper Partners, Community Response Teams, and Groups.
- Auto-validation… I would like to not have to edit the field content for each record to force the address validation. Currently, when I import records that have location address, the content goes where it’s intended, but it doesn’t show on a map until I go into the field and force validate the address. I don’t know if its possible, but if so. it would be nice to have it just validate upon existence in the record.
- I think maybe my response in point 1 has answered this question, but if not, please let me know and I”ll try again.
Thanks Jon!
I’m gonna take a break on feature requests for a minute. I’m afraid you’re gonna start thinking i don’t love SmartSuite. Best!
